Plastic Pallet Materials
Most plastic pallets are made from HDPE (high density polyethylene) and PP (polypropylene), and recycled HDPE and PP. There is a big difference between virgin hdpe and recycled hdpe.
There are different methods to produce plastic pallets. When plastic is modified in processing it undergoes heat and pressure and there will be a big transition. Heat is required to liquefy the plastic to mold it, pressure will be needed to make the pallet to be molded in one part. The application of heat and pressure puts strain on the molecular structure of the plastic and that's pretty much how plastic pallets are made.
Virgin hdpe resins are typically more durable and consistent on the molecular level than recycled resins, and they perform better during the production process. However, it's more envirnmental friendly to use recycled resins because they are made from resins that are recycled from used or broken plastic pallets.
One of the biggest advantage to use recycled resins is that the material is cheaper so the pallet costs less and it's good to the envirnment. So, if you are purchasing an expense, a pallet made out of recycled resin is generally the more competitive option, at the same time recycled plastic pallets are mostly for one time shipment, so if you want to use it for long terms, we advise virgin plastic resins.
