Plastic Pallet Materials

Jun 20, 2024

As we all know, plastic pallets are made from plast, but there are a variety of different plastic materials. Each have their own benefits and challenges. When choosing the right pallet for your operation, it's important to choose the right pallet material; impact resistance & rigidity. In general, these aspects are inversely correlated.

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE): This is by far the most commonly used material to manufacture plastic pallet and it's typical to choose modified material as it's more cost effective. Milk jugs are the single largest use of HDPE and is known as a very versatile resin. For some applications, you can choose to use recycled hdpe, in this case, it's usually for one time export use application as you only use one time. It offers plastic pallets great impact resistance and durability. In some application when you have to use in cold storage, you have to use virgin material as it won't break under low temperature.

Polypropylene (PP): PP is the second most widely use resin used to manufacture plastic pallets. It is much more rigid and won't break but lacks the impact resistance of HDPE. It's also usually more expensive that HDPE. So when it comes to bag stacking, it's idal to choose pp as the material as it can resist the weight of bag and won't break.
